I Was Playing Completely Wrong
A few weeks in, I thought I had it figured out.
I was winning games. Hitting harder. Playing faster.
It felt like progress.
Until I stepped onto the court with someone who didn’t look impressive at all.
No flashy warm-up. No big swings. Just calm, controlled play.
And I got destroyed.
Not even close.
The Difference
What made it worse was how effortless it looked.
No power shots. No aggression. Just control.
That loss stuck with me.
On the drive home, I kept replaying the game. Not the mistakes — but the difference.
- I was rushing shots
- I was forcing power
- I was reacting instead of thinking
They were doing the opposite.
- Staying patient
- Controlling placement
- Always one step ahead
The Realization
That’s when everything clicked.
I wasn’t losing because I lacked skill.
I was losing because I didn’t understand the game.
I was trying to win points.
They were controlling the entire rally.
The Shift
From that day on, everything changed.
I stopped chasing power.
And started chasing control.
Because the real edge isn’t how hard you hit.
It’s how well you decide.
